Introduction
Visualize a multicultural, multimedia movement across our planet, integrating
art and technology to inspire and motivate vast audiences to participate
in A Season for Nonviolence, A Reverence for Life. Us Foundation is co-sponsoring
the Gandhi & King : A Season for Nonviolence, January 30th-April 4th,
1998. The mission of A Season of Nonviolence is to coordinate and empower
local organizations and individuals all over the world to bring forth their
work promoting nonviolence at the grassroots level in communities, religious
institutions, schools and governments. Starting January 30th, 1998, concurrent
events honoring the legacies of M K Gandhi and M L King on the 50th and
30th anniversaries of their assassinations respectively, and celebrating
local heroes for their contributions to this work, will be happening throughout
communities in the world.
1998 is also the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - what an opportunity to expand the vision of nonviolence to an even larger audience! We will combine education and entertainment, highlighting the various local heroes and national celebrities as they discuss and show how they and the audience can be make a positive difference. The multimedia essay exhibition will provide opportunities to connect people with local organizations that are engaged in creating more harmony on the planet (domestic, urban, religious, ethnic, racial, diplomatic, environmental and political). This message is also sent through the internet worldwide spreading this very timely message throughout the planet. Us Foundation is sponsoring this multimedia essay exhibition to honor this very timely and needed effort to create and awaken more peace on the planet. The theme of the essay exhibition is : "What is the Relationship between Human Rights and Nonviolence? " The essay exhibition will be launched on Net Day, Oct 25th to schools
in California. and we are in the process of organizing the
simultaneous launch in all Net Day schools throughout the USA. The Universal
Declaration of Human Rights, and also a layperson language version by Peace
at Home Inc. is on the Us Foundation website for inspiration and clarification.
The Season for Nonviolence and the multimedia essay exhibition may be the
basis for study and discussion in classes in history, sociology, human
rights, English, writing, and art. Net Day can become the twice a year
update and reminder for each school and community to assess and work with
their issues of nonviolence and human rights.
There are many people and organizations moving in the same direction but with little knowledge of each other nor the ability or energy to collaborate. The vision is that "A Season for Nonviolence, A Reverence for Life" becomes a global movement and that we collaborate and connect with the various people and organizations towards this ultimate vision - there is Only Us, no Them, so let's all work together for our highest common good.
